Overview

What is RECAP?

RECAP is a small hardware adapter that lets you record phone calls on your computer.

What it does:

  • Captures both sides of your phone conversation
  • Works with any phone that has a headphone jack
  • Outputs to your computer as a stereo microphone
  • Pass-through audio so you can hear the call in real-time

What you get:

  • One channel: Your voice from the headset mic
  • Other channel: Their voice from the phone
  • ⚠️ Channel assignment (L/R) may vary depending on USB adapter used

What you need: Phone + Headset + Computer + Recording software (free)

What You Need

Required Items

1. Phone with headphone jack

  • iPhone (with 3.5mm jack or Lightning adapter)
  • Android phone with 3.5mm jack
  • Any phone using standard AHJ headset connector

2. Compatible headset

  • ⚠️ CRITICAL: Many old headsets don't work with modern phones
  • Test your headset FIRST (see Step 1 below)
  • Apple EarPods work well as a reference headset

3. Computer with STEREO microphone input

  • This is where most issues happen
  • Most modern laptops/Macs only have MONO input
