Overview

What is RECAP?

RECAP is a small hardware adapter that records both sides of any conversation — phone calls, computer meetings, or any audio through a headset.

What it does:

  • Captures both sides of the conversation (your voice + their voice)
  • Works with any device that has a combo headset port (phones, laptops, tablets)
  • Outputs to any device with stereo microphone input
  • Pass-through audio so you can hear in real-time

What you get:

  • One channel: Your voice from the headset mic
  • Other channel: Their voice from the call device
  • ⚠️ Channel assignment (L/R) may vary depending on USB adapter used

What you need: Call device + Headset + Recording device + Recording software (free)

What You Need

Required Items

1. Call device with combo headset port

  • Phone (with 3.5mm jack or Lightning/USB-C adapter)
  • Laptop or computer with combo headset jack
  • Tablet with 3.5mm jack
  • Any device using standard AHJ headset connector

2. Compatible headset

  • ⚠️ CRITICAL: Many old headsets don't work with modern devices
  • Test your headset FIRST (see Step 1 below)
  • Apple EarPods work well as a reference headset

3. Recording device with STEREO microphone input

  • This is where most issues happen
  • Most modern laptops/Macs only have MONO input
  • Use our free scanner to check: https://recapmycalls.com/audio/

  • If MONO only → You need a USB adapter ($20-40)

4. Recording software (free)

  • Windows: Sound Recorder (built-in) or Audacity (recommended)
  • Mac: QuickTime Player (built-in) or Audacity (recommended)
